While the entertainment industry continues to fight the, seemingly, never ending battle for space within the capital city limits. There are quite a few events, and their corresponding founders, who have swam against the tide of red tape and nonsense paperwork to deliver live music products that allows upcoming artistes and musicians to express what is glaringly obvious for quite some time. That the Jamaican music is best, especially one of our most enduring genres – reggae, is best when the audience is present and engaging with the balladeers and instrumentalists alike.
This was partially the reason why Event Curator/Producer Kareece Lawrence and her team decided to launch I – Frequency, a bi-monthly event that showcases Rastafari roots and culture, providing insight on how to translate the ‘livity’ (natural way of life) into everyday life. Through the means of health and wellness, food, literature, spirituality, physical fitness, youth development, social responsibility, self-improvement, business, science and the arts with a special eye on live music as a catalyst.
Held at the Bamboo Bar and Cafe, in the middle of the Barbican entertainment strip, I – Frequency ‘s performance stage has been graced with cameo appearances by Ras Shiloh, Daweh Congo and Marlon Brown as well as billed acts Mackeehan, Kush McAnuff, Kai Wakeling, Wormbass, Minori and US-based Reggae Artiste Lavender Fields in the recent past. This particular staging was the second official one within reggae month 2026 and had Rory StoneLove providing the musical backdrop and dozens of local artisans plying their wares. Featuring Rik Jam, Yeza, Essah, Dalwayne, Medisun, Lila Ike, Joby Jay and quite a few more acts empowered by the moment to showcase each of their considerable talents, the final I – Frequency of the season was one to behold and be an active part of.
