Celebrating 63 Various Artistes Three Lighters

TADs Records have put out another one in the “Celebrating …” series in observance of that extra special time in world history

Another year to celebrate Jamaica’s forward march into freedom from the colonialist British Empire, 63 years ago. As has been the norm the past few years, TADs Records have put out another one in the “Celebrating …” series in observance of that extra special time in world history. The formula being what it is, ‘Celebrating 63’ has current artistes reimagining hits from yesteryear sprinkled with a few originals by seasoned artisans of the craft topped off by an instrumental feature or two. The album begins with Jesse Royal interpretation of the Paragons’ quintessential classic “Tide Is High” and continues with songs like “Rivers of Babylon”, “Little Green Apples”, “Memories by the Score” and “Party Time” done by Screwdriver, George Nooks, Duane Stephenson and Leroy Sibbles respectively – with the added treat of hearing Leroy Sibbles performing a song he and his group, The Heptones, recorded almost 50 years prior. Another notable achievement of this release has to be the Fred Karlin and Norman Gimbel original “I’ll Make It With Your Love” that features all four Bonner Brothers: Richie Spice, Spanner Banner, Snatch a Lion and Pliers. A momentous occasion for the Bonner family and considering that family’s pedigree, for listeners as well. Another special treat sees another product of Jamaican music royalty, Tanya Stephens daughter Kelly Shane, give her own credible rendition to the Beatles’ definitive hit “Don’t Let Me Down”. This track was sequenced and produced by Tad Dawkins and Tad Dawkins Junior, Christopher Scott, Gregory Morris and Michael ‘Boxy’ Howell.
