Vanquished
Herbal essence provided the perfect atmosphere at a venue where the theme is “weed is my best friend”. Kaya Herb House was the venue for Popcaan’s themed live show ‘Vanquish’ an acoustic rendition of an album fresh off the OVO conveyor belt of talent.
Arriving at the venue at minutes to 11 even though the start time was a firm 8 pm proved to be foolish as parking was limited and after many frustrating attempts at parking, the conclusion to a tale of bad moves was just to cleverly park in front of a fire hydrant and behind a police car. I wonder how that turned out.
I floated into the venue as a whirlwind of earthy smoke accentuated by the calming fragrance of marijuana escorted me into a night of blessings. Chromatic was busily setting the tone as Ariez and Shantonio warmed the crowd into a full-blown fever as they kept the dropping hits after hits as characteristics of a deep discography were on full display. A segment that received numerous “pull up that bloodcl**t” was focused on the musical sensation of Sizzla as his unforgettable lyrics were recited by everyone in attendance. The reins were then handed over to Brush1 and Travis as the reign of Chromatic championed on, as hits rained down upon a revelling audience. They provided the perfect segue from party to performance as they introduced members of the Unruly camp as acts like Unruly Cuz and others made themselves known to a supporting public.
Crooning from backstage, Popcaan made his journey to the stage synonymous with his journey through music as he took his own time to the reach to the pinnacle but when he did make it, his presence was indeed felt. Throwing out hits, like an experienced boxer he jabbed the audience with perfect transitions as he conversed with an attentive audience and then BOOM a heavy uppercut showcasing his musical dominance. He had the crowd at his fingertips, more specifically the ladies as they hung unto his every word especially when he uttered the famous line “tight pxxy gyal, calm dung yourselves”. They made their voices heard as it was made clear to Popcaan all the tight pxxy girls were in attendance.
His rendition of ‘Numbers don’t lie’ arguably the biggest song off the album , made it quite clear that Popcaan was speaking the truth as the entire crowd in attendance shouted word for word as they matched the Unruly Boss’ energy. The numbers will continue to speak the truth for Popcaan and the Unruly Camp as their fanbase grows exponentially. Popcaan won’t be even with his peers and will continue to excel in his prime as he vanquishes all foes.
