Rebel Salute 2015: An Anthology Part Two
Busy Signal and RC gave a short but lively set to start the second day. ‘Brighter Days’ the title track of the very popular riddim set the tone for their performance.
A mature Dalton Harris was up next, he greeted the stage and did classic performance songs like his rendition of Stevie Wonder’s ‘You Will Know’ and ‘Pauper’. Shugah came and represented well for the women with her songs: ‘Ebony’ and ‘Give My Soul to Jah’ setting the table for Queen Ifrica who came out with a firework display, as if to salute her as the fire muumma. She wasted no time has Queen went to lyrically burn her critics. Songs: ‘Keep It to Yourself’ and ‘Lioness On The Rise’, lashed out on the system and how they try to hold her down. She also paid homage to the weed with an acoustic version of a new song entitled ‘Easy Breezy’ which describes the gentle side of Jamaica, the warmth of the people, weather and food that compliments this island and makes it unique to visitors. The next legendary band to grace the stage was Inner Circle known for songs like ‘Sweat’, ‘Bad Boys but it was not until Chronixx made his appearance with them on the ‘Tenement Yard remix that the crowd got into a frenzy. Once on stage, Chronixx proceeded to make his presence felt and he delivered his cameo performance.
The Messenjah – Luciano was next and he did so with his usual energy and ‘It’s Me Again Jah’, ‘Lord Give Me Strength’, ‘Messenger’ were just a few of the songs he performed. A little further in his set, Luciano had a shoe malfunction but the MC – Mutabaruka salvaged the moment by telling him go to barefoot to the delight of the Rebel Salute crowd. Next you had Mr. Calvin Scott – Cocoa Tea who came on and just went in it with tunes like ‘She Loves Me Now’, ‘Sonia Came Back To Me’. He left the stage was promptly called back on when he did a Beres Hammond song – ‘My Wish’ and left the stage for the second and final time with the fans wanting more. The 2015 staging of Rebel Salute was now coming to an end with the closing act Sizzla now on stage. Sizzla with ‘Holding Firm’,’Dry Cry’,’Be Nice’,’Solid as a Rock’, hit after hit he made his mark on Rebel Salute and the massive crowd that waited could not get enough of him. Sizzla in his performance basically burned the placed down, lashing out against the system and for the weed to be legalised not just for smoking but for medicinal purposes. Sizzla could do no wrong as he had the crowd at his command he brought up his father and a female artiste Moeish who did small stints which went well with the crowd. Sizzla was in his element and brought the curtains down on Rebel Salute 2015 in fine style
