Magnum Kings & Queens Season 8 Presents Castle Blue

After watching Castle Red debut their talent on the live show premiere for Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Season 8, it was now time for Castle Blue’s Top 14 princes and princesses to show their talent and win over the Jamaican and Trinibagonian audience.  Handpicked by judges from a total of over 2000 hopefuls, Castle Blue showed why viewers in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago will have a difficult time choosing who will move on to claim a space in the coveted Magnum mansion.

The night began with an exciting fashion segment presented by Sashu Boutique causing quite a stir as both males and females in the audience and social media were observed actively planning their next big fashion statement. The performances started with socially and politically charged performances by Sean di Vere and Deference after which judges offered conservative yet firm coaching of the first set of the night’s performances. Miss Kitty encouraged both contestants to “control their breathing and broaden the lyrical content of their songs”. She went on to advise that “It’s 2015 and we can’t be hearing the same old lyrics. Get more creative and innovative”. Other outstanding performances came from Govona J, Tamar Blueprint, Angel Eyez and Lava Vein.

One of the night’s clear favourites hails from Trinidad and Tobago and  adopts the moniker Smallz. The dreadlocked dancehall talent immediately won over the crowd with not only his lyrical prowess and energetic performance, but with an enviable physique. This was evident by the screams of approval heard during his performance as he teased the live audience with a preview by lifting his shirt to show his body.  As for how he felt about performing for the first time in front of a  Jamaican audience tuning in via TVJ; “ Me a Trinidadian that soak ina Dancehall which is a Jamaican ting and mi love unnu. Me have a unique voice that they love. Intelligent people should vote for me.”

The biggest surprise of the night came at the end of the episode when host Yanique announced that crowd favourites from last week May Pen audition star Maxibillian and Trinibagonian KG were two of the four Castle Red contestants that did not amass enough votes to move on to next week’s live show.

Viewers in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago are encouraged to vote to keep their favourite contestants moving on week after week. Four contestants(2 princes + 2 princesses) from Castle Blue will be sent home next week as contestants fight to earn their spot in the Magnum Mansion. Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall Season 8 will continue this Saturday, February 14, 2015 on TVJ in Jamaica at 9:30PM and TV6 in Trinidad and Tobago at 10:30PM (ECT).
