After a year and a half of production, recording and mixing at Estudio FA, in the Federal Capital, Senda Mística arrives. This is the second studio album by Los Jugos Locos, the band from the Republic of La Boca. Mastered in the mythical Afro de Lanús studio, by the renowned sound engineer Facundo Jara.
Crossed by what has elapsed between 2020 and part of 2021, an album is born that exploits various facets of the group. Variety of rhythms and nuances in each song.
We had already heard the advances in the roots of “La Buena”, or in the Andean afropop bet that Los Jugos printed in “Por el bajo”. As well as, in February 2022, the title of the album, Senda Mística, was revealed; thus launching the 3rd preview. As if that were not enough, the cut that gave its name to the musical and spiritual moment of the Juguense squad, sees the light along with a Dub Mix, made by the multi-award winning Jamaican sound engineer Gregory Morris. A blessing from the island that has given so much music to the whole world. So with Mystic Way, we have four songs on the soundtrack. These last two, with digital dub audio and lyrics that try to penetrate the listener’s feelings.
But this production has diversity as its particularity, and that is why the remaining songs range from funky-rocker reggae to dancehall; from the afro to the dub, in high doses.
Love as a topic in the band’s repertoire, takes on another weight with Limán, a romantic song in terms of lyrics, but with good power in music and melody.
Rock as an influence on this album can be clearly heard on Ya se Siente and Vidub. The latter in a version that mixes reggae with rock and dancehall with synths and drums towards the end. Almost seven minutes up there!
The gang is discovered in Floating and Thinking. It is found in a Latin song, dancehall and with a message of reflection even in the highest moments. At times he steps on the afro, at times the Jamaican calypso.
To finish, two dub bombshells mixed by the album’s engineer Bruno Solazzi (guitar and backing vocals from Los Jugos). One of them, a dub mix cover of the song “No Burial” by the great Mykal Rose. And “La Buena Dub”, in case there was any desire to continue flying with Juguense dub, a tremendous version.
Of course, the album cover art continues in the excellent work of Renacer Collage. On this occasion, with a piece that is somewhat more minimalist but that perfectly expresses what the music and lyrics propose on the album. Once again, giving important weight to the design of Los Jugos, with a different theme, such as collage. A beauty!
There is something that is certain in this material: a search for sound in each piece. Each song tries to tell a different story and mesh an album with many sounds, climates, rhythms and intensities. Different poetic themes and a bet such as the Afro, a genre that is beginning to have its versions throughout Latin America.
Acoustic and electronic drums. Processed voices and root sounds. Classic and Andean braces. Synths and patches. Everything is part of the Mystic Path.
