Kukudoo Jerusalem Three Lighters

Music is a mission and not a competition, is the common refrain by many people who are involved in the Jamaican music industry. That statement is especially apt within the Jamaican gospel scene as the main objective of each release is to deliver music that: celebrates the word, reinforce certain principles and bring joy to masses; there is literally no space or time for segregation.

Fellowship is especially important to the music as gospel singer Kukudoo’s Jerusalem album shows. Kukudoo worked with Omari, Chozenn, Magie and Pslamist on 4 of the 16 tracks released which highlights how willing they all were to come together to deliver the message.

However, Jerusalem while starting full of energy somewhat fizzles midway through. Kukudoo made his name as a revivalist singer however where the album suffers for me is the similar themes used throughout. Despite that observation, there are several songs that warrant repeat listening such as: ‘Eye of the Storm’, ‘King David’, ‘Caan Lose at Jesus Feet. ‘Thank You Jesus’ featuring Omari and ‘Come Along’ featuring Psalmist. All and all, Jerusalem, would be good addition to all who enjoy the pocomania, revivalist sound.
