Jahvillani X Skillibeng; Smooth When West Meets East

when two of Jamaica’s most prominent artists, from opposite ends of the island, Skillibeng and Jahvillani link up, it elicits a special kind of anticipation.

For a long time Kingston has remained the Mecca of dancehall music and some feel it continues to be exactly that. Yet, in times past and most certainly in today’s dancehall, forerunners in the music industry rise up to represent the talented rural spaces of Jamaica. Currently, many such artistes abound, from Popcaan to Charly Blacks and the list is exhaustive. But, when two of Jamaica’s most prominent artists, from opposite ends of the island, Skillibeng and Jahvillani link up, it elicits a special kind of anticipation. One which the two deliver on with the single Smooth.

Smooth is deviation from the typical rough aesthetic associated with the Gangster Deejay persona. It is a much more polished, charismatic take on the outlaw; one that seems to be an ode to Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal. This uniquely Jamaican take on the style and charm associated with the lifestyle of the outlaw, is authentic as it gets. Smooth which was released last year is surprisingly maintaining it’s buzz into the New Year and continuing to create waves.

The video that accompanies the new single is just as stylish and matches the sonic aesthetic with fresh and vibrant visuals.
