This past Saturday night was a most welcomed celebration of roots music, graciously brought to us by the regal, Hempress Sativa. Well known for hits like Boom Shakalak, Rock It Ina Dance, The Weed Thing, and more recently, Rastafari Rise, Sativa’s musical catalog has been on a steady incline as she tours the world. This third staging of her live showcase delivers on it’s established tradition. It maintains the original intent, to share the platform with undiluted, conscious talents.
This year’s staging which featured Jamila Falak,Warrior King, Yeza, T’Jean, Jah Izrehl and Meeka Nyota. Hosted by Dr Jahlani A.H Niaah and sounds by Dj Iset Sankofa, alongside Dj Natty.
Jah Izrehl delivered a compelling set, joined by Fyah Roiall.
The performance that followed was the impressive dub poet Meeka Nyota.
Meeka was then followed by the iconic Warrior King well known for his hits like Virtuous Woman, Never Go Where Pagans Go, Can’t Get Me Down and more. He was joined by Princess Kazaya, a young songstress from Chicago.
Their performance was followed by the militant, lyrical songstress from Bull Bay, Yeza.
T’Jean was the next performer, a reverent young firespitter, representing the Twelve Tribes. T’Jean is also son of famed reggae icon Mikey Bennet.
The main act and person responsible for the live showcase, Hempress Sativa was finally ready to grace the stage, and she did so in fine form.
