Get Ready For City Splash 2023
Now officially into its third installment, City Splash Festival is firmly established as London’s biggest celebration
Now officially into its third installment, City Splash Festival is firmly established as London’s biggest celebration of the very best of Caribbean and African music, bringing people together to celebrate the city’s vibrant Caribbean and African music culture.
In recent years, City Splash has expanded its reach beyond reggae, featuring a diverse range of musical genres from the Diaspora including Afrobeats and extending to ska to dubstep, soulful reggae to jungle beats. However, at its core, City Splash remains a celebration of reggae music and culture, and its unifying spirit continues to bring people together from across the country.
Building on its success of previous years, the one day event will once again take place in South East London’s iconic and expansive Brockwell Park, on May 29, 2023.
Headlined by a galaxy of over 60 stars in music, the recently released phase one line – up features a dazzling array of artistes from the world of reggae and dancehall. Expect to see fan favourites Chronixx, who will be performing for the first time here in the UK since 2019, alongside Grammy award winning Koffee, Mobo Award winning dancehall artistes Shenseea and Skilibeng along with UK based dancehall artiste, Stylo G.
The festival has also become a platform for up-and-coming local reggae artists such as roots soul singer and songwriter Teshay Makeda and Aleighcia Scott to showcase their talents to national audiences.
Representing sound system roots and culture straight from Yard is Jason Panton of Dubwise Jamaica and closer to home are Rampage Sound, Channel One, BPG winning broadcaster, DJ and Grammy Award winning producer – Seani B and DJ Izzy Bossy. Many more TBC. Watch this space.
Fans of multi-disciplinary artist, producer, yoga teacher, social scientist and cultural curator will be thrilled to see a sorely missed Jah9 hold space once again after a hiatus, on one of the seven stages at the festival.
Not satisfied with being just a musical event, the festival is also a gastronomic experience featuring flavourful Ital food, traditional Jerk and the finest in diasporic cuisine. And of course there will be Caribbean rums and lagers as well as craft brews. Black Eats LDN founder Jackson McClarty has also announced their third year partnership with the festival “curating a bigger and better line-up of over 45 Black owned food traders”.
To ensure visitors have an amazing experience, the festival has extensive onsite facilities. Expect to find ATMs, free drinking water (bring a reusable water bottle for refills!), and Welfare and First Aid provision across the park. This is a family friendly event so nappy changing facilities are also available.
As a responsible festival, with the community at its heart, City Splash, in an effort to reduce the use of plastic on site will not allow the sale of any single use plastic onsite. Instead, a cup deposit scheme will be in place at every bar to increase recycling and be as eco-friendly as possible.
First release GA, Early Bird, VIP and Group tickets are already sold out since the first phase line-up was announced. However, with the second release, further tickets are now available on Skiddle, Shoobs and Eventbrite.
