Teamwork is in the dream works over at FinnJam, Rasmus Hauta-Aho, previous A&R for Sony Finland doubles down on his passion for Reggae music. A collaborative production space for creative freedom, FinnJam recently held its first 3 day long songwriting workshop in tandem with SkoolJa. No stranger to the ragamuffin lifestyle, the impassioned Finn intends to create an open atmosphere that fosters growth for those in need of it most. Being a longtime patron of Reggae and Dancehall, he recounts developing a great love for Reggae at 15 years old before venturing into songwriting and producing, a movement he wishes to impart on the youth. Commercial success in Finland saw him touring the world, landing him in Jamaica where he was inspired to push the initiative.
“I’ve toured a lot of places in the world, but straight up, when I came to Portland [Jamaica], I felt like, yea, this is my place. After a couple of months, I realized what some of the problems here with the music industry are…I’d love to give to the Jamaican culture and industry,” explained Rasmus Hauta-Aho. He mentions the effort will bring established producers and writers from overseas to the Kingston located creative space, where he hopes will be a center for change in how we produce international music in years to come.
