London’s premier reggae, dancehall, and afrobeats festival City Splash announces its 2022 line-up, which is fronted by the sensational headliners Mr Eazi, Barrington Levy, Protoje, Kranium, and Stonebwoy, in addition to 51 total other names including Sister Nancy, Luciano, Heartless Crew, General Levy, Congo Natty, AMARIA BB, Channel One, Khalia, and final additions Alicai Harley, Earl Sixteen, The Compozers, True Identity, Bobo Blackstar, Cassandra London, Claire Angel, Daddy Nature, Dohlance, Flags Sound, Horseman, HYA-P, Kemarr, Legal Shot Sound, Lioness Fonts, Mixmaster J, Natural High Music, Rebel Clash, Ric Carbi, Shotz, Super Midz and Vincent Nap plus many more. Moving to its new home in Brockwell Park, Brixton, City Splash 2022 is set to take place on Sunday 29th May across 6 stages, with tickets starting at £25.00 + booking fee. In 2022, City Splash is about to get even bigger with the announcement of 5 headline artists, including the Nigerian afropop powerhouse and self-proclaimed ‘Banku Music’ tastemaker Mr Eazi, who has worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin and over the past several years has become a leading name within afropop, afrobeats, and R&B. Also headlining is reggae-dancehall legend Barrington Levy, who has built a storied and prestigious career that stretches across 40+ years. Fans can expect to hear favourites ‘Here I Come’, ‘Black Roses’, and ‘Under Me Sensi’ as the music pioneer creates festival moments to remember for all in attendance.
For over a decade, Protoje has become a frontrunner in modern reggae and is now set to headline City Splash this year. With his expansive catalogue of music that spans across 6 studio albums, Protoje has consistently taken inspiration from roots, making him one of the most authentic artists on the scene as he fuses the genre with his fresh reggae stylings that incorporate rap and hip-hop. With over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify and having worked with a series of A-list names including Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign, and Wiz Kid, Kranium is a much-welcomed headliner of this year’s line-up and will be taking the festival to another level when he takes to the stage. Also headlining City Splash in Brockwell Park this summer is the Grammy-nominated afropop, dancehall, and reggae virtuoso Stonebwoy, who has become a leading name in the genre through his ability to traverse across multiple sub-genres to create a sound that is both invigorating and addictive.
Elsewhere on the line-up, City Splash is pleased to welcome the immensely influential Sister Nancy, whose track ‘Bam Bam’ has amassed close to 100,000,000 streams on Spotify and has been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West. Her not-to-be-missed set at City Splash is certain to be a historic moment within London’s reggae and dancehall scene. Joining her is the spectacular roots-reggae singer Luciano, who will be bringing his silky smooth beats and supple vocals to the festival stage. Also added to the bill is the genre-fusing sensation AMARIA BB, who despite releasing just a handful of singles and EPs has already become one of the most exciting artists to have emerged in recent years. Her blend of pop, afropop, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and more will be one of the highlights of the festival in 2022.
City Splash 2022 is set to be one of the parties of the summer as the line-up continues to overflow with stellar names, including the Tottenham-born proto-jungle tastemaker Congo Natty, whose exhilarating beats will be taking the festival to new heights in May. Also announced is renowned specialist reggae sound system brand turned electrifying live act Channel One (Mikey Dread and MC Ras Kayleb), rising reggae and dancehall star Khalia, reggae co-founders Twinkle Brothers whose music extends across nearly 70 years, R&B hitmaker Kele Le Roc, and the renowned DJ Ras Kwame who has been a been a much-loved resident DJ at both BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra before joining Capital Xtra in 2013. Completing the line-up is a collection of both established and up-and-coming artists that span across decades of reggae, dancehall, afrobeats, and more. Names include Christopher Ellis, Dreya Mac, Dubwise Jamaica, Eva Lazarus, General Levy, Heartless Crew, Iration Steppas, Juls, King Tubby’s, Mad Professor, Mercedes Benson, Moonchild Sanelly, Neptizzle, Pioneer B2b Supa D ft. City Splash is also pleased to announce its official stage partners for 2022, starting with the female-led Bossy LDN, who since 2015 have been showcasing cutting-edge talent from across music, popular culture, and fashion with its creative and innovative events and radio shows. Joining them are the historic Channel One Sound System, who have been ingrained into roots and reggae culture for over 40 years and are integral to the scene. Also being announced as stage partners are the London-based music and broadcasting legends Rampage Sound, who are famous for their presence at Nottinghill Carnival in which they present their phenomenal static sound system, the largest of its kind in Europe. Their impressive resume dates back 20 years and counting, and they have worked alongside the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, NAS, Usher, Wyclef, and more. The final stage partner to be announced are the viral internet-radio sensations and live event creators Recess, who have undergone an almost overnight success having first emerged just a few years ago and have since gone on to become a leading voice within the UKs Black community.
City Splash is also announcing its collaboration with Black Eats LDN who will be on-site with a collection of London’s best African and Caribbean street food vendors! In addition to the first-class music line-up, festival-goers will be able to try everything from jerk chicken to vegan ital stew, jollof rice, fried plantains, and so much more! The festival will also have a range of unrivalled drink vendors, serving rum, locally crafted beers, stouts, and spirits.
