Legendary producer/audio engineer turned artist, Bulby York’s new single is a beam of light amid global pandemic.
Bulby York has an extensive and illustrious work history within the Jamaican music industry, as his recent JARIA honor award can attest. Working with artists like Sean Paul, Beres Hammond, Rihanna, Super Cat, Madonna, Shabba Ranks, and Britney Spears to name a few. Having worked with A-listers of such magnitude, it’s no wonder his latest single features the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Bounty Killer and Capleton.
York’s new single titled “Humanitarian” is an ode to the spirit of humanity in this time of crisis. As the world reels from the sudden outbreak of the deadly corona virus, people around the world face an uncertain future. Yet, it is our resilience as a species that has gotten us this far, and it is that compassion, empathy and ingenuity that will ensure our survival. Bulby’s Humanitarian embodies this sentiment.
The track is in fact a rework of a classic Jimmy Cliff song, from the legendary 1999 album of the same name. York had the idea to revitalize the track with a dancehall flare, but he still had the task of convincing Jimmy Cliff that it was the right move. Jimmy acquiesced Bulby’s request and even selected his favorite Deejays, Bounty Killer and Capleton for the rework.
The rework featuring Bulby himself, was released April of this year. When asked Bulby described Humanitarian as ” a song made to provide comfort and hope to the mind, body, and soul. Listening to this song will certainly create a calming effect to the people of the world who are anxious and fearful. The message of Humanitarian will allow people to know that even though they are struggling at this very moment with uncertainty and chaos, they will not forget their humanity, ” It’s available for download and stream on all major platforms.
