Jah9 Live 2017

One of the most heartwarming things about this new generation of conscious musicians, is that though they enjoy a wider audience abroad, they have set foundations here  that stands as a kind of promise to us locals

A promise of live shows every year where we get to see them in their full elements, and call them ours. Jah9 Live not only delivered fully on 9’s own covenant, but it was such a timely delivery. In case you had not been paying attention, there has been a recent surge in the attack on women and children. Jah9 created a space, perched atop reggae mountain, underneath the full moon, during the passing of a comet(according to the graceful MC), where the power of the feminine was unleashed to wreak havoc, to heal and to nurture.

With a stellar line up boasting such acts as;
The incomparable Uprising Roots Band with hits like “Sky Fiya” , “Brightest Light” and more. Their set was vibrant as they also invited Winston Mcanuff to share the stage and a song with them.
Meleku the young, with hits such as “African Child”, “What to make of this world” and more.

Lila Ike a young songbird and lyricist known for such songs as “Biggest Fan” and “Flight Plans” from Protoje’s recent mixtape Royalty Free. Her set was if nothing, a mere glimpse into the bright future that awaits Lila.
Runkus and the Ol Skool Bond, who thrilled the crowd with his peculiar but moving musical performances. I must say, neither himself nor his fellow musicians missed a beat. A well oiled machine to say the least, this act continues to grow with each performance.
And finally Jah9’s set was very high energy and as she took the stage a presence descended upon the venue. Undoubtedly, every woman present became energized by the message from songs like “Unafraid” , “Greatest Threat to the Status Quoe” , “Humble Mi” and more. Even the songs were paved with beautiful poetry performances from Yashika Graham and Tara Downs. Not only was the energy of the charts, if you didn’t leave with a ringing in your ear from the sheer screaming of the women, you probably weren’t anywhere near the venue. All in all, it was a joy for many to be able to intercourse with perhaps the most powerful feminine voice of this generation.
