  • Reggae Gold 2009

Well, once again VP Records has delivered the goods on what annually is the most anticipated reggae based releases: Reggae Gold 2009. As usual Reggae Gold is a fine compilation of last year’s and some of this year’s greatest hits from dancehall and reggae’s biggest artistes from Movado to Sean Paul and with special appearances from R & B artistes such as Jazmine Sullivan and Estelle. A truly smooth and diverse collection of what is great about the current Jamaican music scene. In fact, the only downfall I find with this year’s effort is, in my view, VP’s collaboration with the Jamaica Tourist Board to add a promotional DVD to the Reggae Gold package.

  • This DVD promises so much and yet delivers so little. The promotional videos from both the Jamaica Tourist Board & Jamaica Trade & Invest fail to properly deliver the message that Jamaica is the place to be. Unfortunately, both institutions winded up using the same tired old message they have been using for three decades, even using the Reggae Gold 2009 cover art to recreate the classic 1970s Jamaica Tourist Board image instead of going through the trouble of actually creating a brand new image of Jamaica more in tune of what is currently the reality. But overall, Reggae Gold 2009 is once again a pretty good investment for any one even remotely interested in the state of reggae music.
